Red Wine and Coca-Cola?

This just might be the weirdest wine combination yet…

Kalimoxto Drink IngredientsRaise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by complicated wine spritzer recipes…

Well watch out, “cucumber lime moscato wine spritzer with garden-grown mint leaves.” There’s a 2-ingredient wine spritzer in town, and it’s trending like crazy.

It’s called kalimotxo, and it’s one of the strangest combinations I’ve ever seen. All you need is a 50/50 mixture of Coca-Cola and red wine.

To some, this may not sound very appealing. As my coworker phrased it, “that sounds like something Lil Wayne would drink.” I have reached out to Lil Wayne regarding his comment about kalimotxo; he has not yet responded. I’m assuming he’s just having a busy week.

Kalimotxo, pronounced like “cal-ee-moe-cho,” was invented in the 1970s. A group of friends were at a concert drinking red wine that had gone bad, and decided to make it more drinkable by adding cola. Clearly it worked, seeing as kalimotxo is quickly becoming a very common beverage.

Would you try this trendy drink or does it sound to bizarre to you? Share your opinion on twitter at @BrightCellars or comment on Facebook so I can make the bold decision of whether or not to try it.
