What Country Does Your Favorite Wine Come From?

Best Wine Producing Country

Wine is made all over the world. But what is the best wine producing country, according to you? It is an old world wine? Or maybe a new world?

This week we asked Glass Half Full which country produces the best wine. When we asked the Bright Cellars’ team this question there was no doubt in their mind that France was going to be victorious. But they might be shocked when they see these results.

The Results

The results were not at all what we were predicting! Which was both surprising but also exciting to see what wines interested our reader. Here are the results:

  • 37.5% of respondents said the United States was their favorite wine producing country.
  • 18.5% of respondents said Italy is their favorite wine producing country
  • 16.4% of respondents said that France was where their favorite wine came from.
  • 7.8% of respondents said Spain is their favorite wine producing country
  • 7.8% of respondents said Argentina is where their favorite wine comes from, tying Spain for 4th place.
  • 4.9% of respondents said Chile makes their favorite wine.
  • 4.6% of respondents said Australia made their favorite wine.
  • 2.7% of respondents said South Africa is where their favorite wine comes from.

We’re pretty sure this is the 21st century version of the Judgement of Paris. A blind wine tasting where many thought that France’s wine were sure to be the winners. When in fact many Californian wines beat the French!

While there are many different countries that produce wine, they all are categorized into two areas, Old World vs. New World. Old World wines come from France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, and regions in North Africa and the Middle East. While New World wines come from the U.S., Australia, Chile, Argentina, and South Africa.

If we put the Old World vs. New World wines against each other the New World would still win, with 57.5% of the votes.

In Vino Fintio

There are many other factors that go into wine, such as climate, weather patterns, terroir, and aging, that make the wine taste the way it does!
