As you’re going around the table sharing what you’re thankful for this Thanksgiving, we won’t judge you if wine is at the top of the list. All jokes aside, there are tons of amazing, value-driven reasons to truly be thankful for wine.
Curious about your wine preferences? Take our quick 7-question quiz, and get personalized wine matches!
1. Wine promotes lifelong learning.
Did you know tasting wine stimulates your brain more than algebra? It’s true! Wine is an educational experience that sharpens your mental skills and ability to discern different taste sensations and flavors.
There are even studies that show wine drinkers tend to be smarter, wealthier, and more stable psychologically than nondrinkers (or those who drink beer.) Lifelong learning? We’ll drink to that.
2. Wine brings people together.
If you’ve ever seen two friends catch up over a glass of Chardonnay, you know the magnetic power of wine. Opening a bottle to watch your favorite TV show, enjoying a glass with date night dinner, meeting friends at your local watering hole, whipping up a home cooked meal with wine, breaking out a bottle at family Thanksgiving - there’s just no denying these social interactions are made better by vino. Personally, it’s our favorite excuse to get together.
3. Wine allows you to experience other cultures and expand your horizons.
If you’ve never been to France, Portugal, or South Africa, don’t fret. You can still experience the land in your glass! Each bottle reflects the unique terroir of the appellation in which it was grown. The next time you’re craving a European vacation, pour yourself a glass and learn how to drink like the Italians (or the French!) Oh, and don’t forget about all the gems right here in the U.S.!
4. Wine is the perfect hostess gift
We may be biased, but there’s no better gift than wine. Bringing a bottle to an event is a simple way of saying “I appreciate you, now let’s pour a glass and enjoy together.”
When you take it a step further and gift your loved one a personalized wine subscription, you’re gifting them a thoughtful, fun experience that keeps on giving, month after month.
Plus, wine is meant to be drank! Therefore you’re not just gifting them another object to clutter up the house.
5. You can drink wine on its own or as a wine cocktail.
The beauty of wine is that it's extremely versatile. If you’re in the mood for something light and refreshing, pour yourself a crisp, acidic white wine. Looking for something a little more substantial? It’s time for a bold red with deep, velvety tannins.
Need a wow factor to impress your guests or liven up your Tuesday night at home? There are endless wine cocktail recipes waiting to be mixed.
6. Wine shows us how beautiful the aging process can be.
As a culture, we often speak about aging in less-than-desirable terms, sometimes even stigmatizing the aging process. Wine reminds us that getting older simply means getting better and that maturing is a beautiful process to be admired and celebrated.
7. Wine can have some health benefits when consumed in moderation.
Red wine specifically is known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and some studies even link it to positive cardiovascular health. This study actually linked drinking red wine to decreased risk for heart disease.
Keep in mind - some wines are considered more healthy than others, and all of this is based on moderate drinking (a glass or two of wine each night.)
