Wouldn’t it be nice if some force from the beyond (ahem, perhaps a Bright Cellars Wine Concierge?!) told you exactly which wine you should drink? If you’ve gone down the personality test rabbit hole, you know your Zodiac sign and the results of your Myers-Briggs can tell you a lot about yourself and what you like. We’re diving deeper into the world of personalization and sharing which wine you should drink based on your Enneagram type.
What is The Enneagram Test?
The Enneagram is a personality system that describes people based on 9 specific types. While some tests focus on behavioral preferences or birthdays, the Enneagram system focuses on emotions - each type centers around a particular emotion, motivation, fear, or internal dynamic.
If you haven’t taken the Enneagram personality test, that’s your first task. If you already know your Enneagram type, read on (and have your bottle on standby.) Here's your go-to wine based on your enneagram type.
Enneagram 1: The Reformer
Ones are rational, purposeful, and aim for perfection. You should reach for a glass of tried-and-true Chardonnay. This white wine will never let you down (plus our new Chêne Crémeux Chardonnay is as close to perfect as you can get.)
Enneagram 2: The Helper
Twos are extremely caring, generous, and at times, people-pleasing, so it doesn’t really matter which wine they’re drinking - you know they’re sharing it with the people around them. We recommend off-dry Riesling, an aromatic white wine primarily made in Germany. If you’re more of a red drinker, go for a warm Argentinian Malbec.
Enneagram 3: The Achiever
Threes are success-oriented, pragmatic, and adaptive. We know better than to select wines based on label artwork, but threes can often be so caught up in their public image, this might be a worthwhile strategy. Our recommendation? You’ll feel comfortable with a glass of Assyrtiko in your hand. This zingy white wine comes from Santorini, Greece, and can be difficult to pronounce, you’ll have the opportunity to flex your wine knowledge and share travel stories all in one go.
Enneagram 4: The Individualist
Fours are a bit moody and withdrawn with a flair for dramatics, so they should drink Petite Sirah. This bold, full-bodied red is known for its high tannins and notes of blueberry and dark chocolate, so it matches their expressive energy and sensitive nature. In true Four fashion, Petite Sirah is an extremely rare grape. There are only about 10,000 acres planted worldwide, so you know it’s unique.
Enneagram 5: The Investigator
Fives are perceptive, innovative, and a bit cerebral. If you’re a five, you should reach for an intense, flavor-packed white like Sauvignon Blanc. You’ll enjoy the fresh, green flavor notes and appreciate the complexity these wines bring to the tasting experience.
Enneagram 6: The Loyalist
Sixes value security. They’re always prepared and like to know exactly what they’re getting. If you’re a six, you should drink Cabernet Sauvignon. You know what you like, and while you enjoy a new wine here and there, you’re of the mindset, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” If you ever decide to get outside your comfort zone, Bright Cellars is ready and waiting with some stellar recommendations that are completely catered to your palate.
Enneagram 7: The Enthusiast
Sevens are fun-loving, spontaneous and all about adventure, so they should grab a glass of sparkling wine. They’ll love the production that comes with popping a bottle of bubbly, and the carbonation should keep them engaged and occupied (for the time being.) Whether you prefer the Italian Prosecco, Spanish Cava, domestic sparkling, or the real deal Champagne, grab your flute and get your fizz on.
Enneagram 8: The Challenger
Eights are self-confident, decisive, and even a bit confrontational, much like the immediate lychee flavor sensation you’ll experience in your first sip of Gewürztraminer. This flavorful white is sure to match your energy, but if you’re more of a red drinker, go for a spicy, bold red like Zinfandel to complement that powerful personality.
Enneagram 9: The Peacemaker
Nines will find a home in the Pinot family. They’re easygoing, agreeable peacemakers who go with the flow and embrace life as it comes, so their wine choice is always an easy one.
If you’re a red-drinking nine, open a bottle of Pinot Noir. This light bodied red wine is loved by many and bridges the gap between white and red. If you’re more a white drinker, opt for Pinot Grigio - a subtle white wine that pairs well with most foods.
